There are dog people. Then there's doodle people. If you're reading this, you already know the difference.
1. Your camera roll is 90% dog, 10% everything else. You have 847 photos of your doodle from this month alone. Seven of them are nearly identical. You kept all seven.
2. You've used the word "zoomies" in a sentence with a completely straight face. And not just at home. At work. In a meeting. You stand by it.
3. Every blanket in your house now belongs to them. You bought it for your couch. They claimed it within 48 hours. You sleep under a thin sheet now. This is fine.
4. You've rearranged your schedule around their feelings. "I can't stay late — my doodle has been home since noon, and he's going to be dramatic about it." Completely valid reason. No notes.
5. Strangers stop you on every single walk. Other dog owners speed up and keep moving. You stop for a full ten-minute conversation with a stranger because your doodle sat down in front of them and made eye contact. He made the decision. You just stood there.
6. You know the difference between breeds most people have never heard of. Goldendoodle. Bernedoodle. Cavapoo. Sheepadoodle. You could write a dissertation. You have opinions.
7. You've Googled something absolutely unhinged at 2 am. "Is it normal for my doodle to stare at the wall for four minutes?" "Why does my dog eat grass, then act surprised?" "Goldendoodle emotional support for owner." That last one was for you, not them.
8. Their personality has a full backstory. Your doodle isn't just a dog. They're a whole character. They have a catchphrase. Probably a nemesis — likely a specific neighbor's dog, or a garden hose.
9. You've bought them something that costs more than your own shoes. A cooling mat. An orthopedic bed. A birthday cake from a dog bakery. You regret nothing.
10. The thought of not having them in your home is genuinely incomprehensible. This one isn't a joke. You remember life before them, technically. But you don't really understand it anymore.
